Everything worth knowing before you book this route — how far it is, how long you will be in the air, whether a direct flight exists from London, and what the fare is doing.

How long is the flight from London to Bali?

The great-circle distance from London (LON) to Bali is 7,766 miles. Flown nonstop, that works out at roughly 14h 30m in the air, including taxi time at both ends.

Expect the return leg to differ. Flying eastbound on the way out, you are pushed along by the jet stream, so the outbound and inbound block times on this route differ by up to 45 minutes. Airlines schedule for it — it is not a delay.

Can you fly London to Bali direct?

No nonstop from the UK

Nothing scheduled flies this far nonstop from Britain, Heathrow included, so one stop is the floor rather than a compromise. The connection is worth choosing rather than accepting: a European or Gulf hub usually beats backtracking to Heathrow, because it keeps you out of a domestic leg and a terminal change, and it is frequently the cheaper ticket as well.

What it costs from London

The cheapest return we have measured from London to Bali is £1,285, flying out 28 Mar and back 12 Apr. That is this airport's own best week, found by searching it separately from the other nine — every UK airport wins on a different date.

When to book

Bali sits close enough to the equator that temperature is effectively a constant, and the year is divided by rain rather than by heat. The dry half is the one everyone books: lower humidity, clear skies, and the surf on the western beaches at its most consistent because the trade winds blow offshore there. The wet half brings afternoon downpours rather than all-day rain, and the island stays entirely functional through it — which is why this destination carries no closed months.

Landing in Bali

You lose 8 hours flying out. Eastbound is the harder direction to adjust to, because you are asking your body to fall asleep earlier than it wants to. Book an arrival that lets you stay up until local evening rather than napping.

Airport DPS, Ngurah Rai, in the south between Kuta and Jimbaran. Twenty minutes to Seminyak in light traffic and up to an hour and a half to Canggu or Ubud at the wrong time of day — the distances are short and the roads are not. Ride-hailing apps cannot legally collect from inside the terminal zone, so either pre-book a car or walk to the designated pickup area.
Currency Indonesian rupiah, in denominations large enough that a hundred thousand note is about five pounds — count the zeros. Cards work in hotels, restaurants and larger shops; warungs, markets, temples and drivers want cash. Use bank ATMs inside branches, and be aware of skimming reports on freestanding machines in tourist areas.
Language Indonesian, with Balinese spoken at home and English widely used across tourism. No real barrier in the south or in Ubud; it thins in the east and north. Terima kasih goes a long way.
